| Large floral
arrangements on the centre of the table are a common table
setting mistake. | For those of
us who tend to be the most timid with our table settings, McKee
encourages we, "add pizzazz." This season is the perfect time to
break away from traditional colours and patterns.
"Break the
rules of what pieces are to be used for; serve soup in big mugs,
desserts in espresso cups and saucers, and Parmesan cheese in a
sugar shaker," suggests McKee.
To add that extra touch that
will make any guest feel special, consider personalizing each
place-setting by setting place cards in some unusual holder like a
pinecone or a seashell, or even setting individual votive candles,
offers McKee.
Other common mistakes, says McKee, include
placing large floral arrangements on the centre of the table (such
an arrangement makes it difficult to connect with the people sitting
across from you), and setting the table with the cup and saucer on
it.
"Tea and coffee things should always be brought in after
the main course is cleared, otherwise it makes the whole table too
cluttered."

Setting Tips Courtesy of Martha McKee, Waterford
Wedgwood
1. DO remember the centre of the
table needs a centre piece 2. DON'T clutter your
table with items that will not be used 3. DO mix
and match your pieces - eclectic is in 4. DON'T use
artificial flowers 5. DO use your good china! That
is what you bought it for! |
